Queen by Elisa Mazzuca
Photography Exhibition 2022 Official Winner
The day after I broke up a 2 year relationship, I needed to leave my house, so I went out in South London, testing out an Ilford HP4 400 roll. I saw this beautiful woman outside of Brixton's station, and I was striked by her giant earrings with the word "queen". I introduced myself, and asked to take her photo. She told me her name was Dionne, and at first she was suspicious, but later opened up about surviving cancer twice. We had a long conversation talking about life, immigrating to different countries, womanhood, and after I took her picture she hugged me, reminding me how important it is to embrace each other in the short time we have on this world. Up to this day, I still think of her with gratefulness, and always hope to come across her whenever I am in Brixton - Elisa Mazzuca
